Ceremonial Bowl from Papua New Guinea
Exceptional wood-carved ceremonial feast food bowl from Tami or Siassi Island, Papua New Guinea. Date of creation: circa 1955-1965
The bowl is carved in a classic ovoid form with the exterior being decorated with a spirit animal figure in relief and painted with white lime pigments. Beautiful brown patina. Some chips or cracks consistent with age and use, but overall amazing condition and quality.
